Making the Most Impact This Plastic Free July ๐ŸŒ

Plastic Free July is here, offering a fantastic opportunity to make a bigger impact and reduce our plastic waste even more and make more sustainable choices. Small changes in our daily lives can add up to a significant impact on the environment. Here are some unique yet practical tips and alternatives to help you get started:

1. Switch to Paper-Wrapped Toilet Paper ๐Ÿšฝ

  • Many brands offer toilet paper wrapped in paper instead of plastic. This small change can make a big difference. My favourite is Bonterra available at Choices Market and Safeway and many other big box stores. There is also a Canadian made bamboo option called Roll Up offered on a subscription basis that I have tried and love!

2. Refill Your Products โ™ป๏ธ

  • Instead of buying new bottles of shampoo, soap, or food products, find stores that offer refill stations like Bare Refillery! Bring your containers and refill them!

3. Buy Local and Unpackaged Produce ๐ŸŽ

  • Visit local farmers' markets where produce is often sold without plastic packaging. Not only do you reduce waste, but you also support local farmers.

4. Ditch Ziploc Bags for Reusable Options ๐Ÿฅช

  • Use plastic bags that you already have for storing things like sandwiches, cheese or snacks - they work just as well as ziplocks for keeping things fresh or taking them on the go. Tortilla bags are what our household goes through the most so try giving those a second, third or fourth life!

  • Invest in reusable silicone bags or containers. They are durable, easy to clean, and perfect for storing food.

5. Use What You Have Before Buying New ๐ŸŒฟ

  • Before purchasing new items, consider whether you already have something that can serve the same purpose. This practice reduces waste and saves money.

  • Just start noticing where you are spending your money, choose one area or item you can reduce your waste in and start there. Perhaps itโ€™s granola bars or yoghurt tubs, these are things you can easily learn how to make - in under 1 hour!

6. Choose Reusable Shopping Bags ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

  • Bring your cloth bags when you shop. Donโ€™t buy new ones! If you do choose to buy new pick cotton or 100% recycled plastic. They are stronger and more eco-friendly than single use plastic bags.

7. Say No to Single-Use Plastics ๐Ÿšซ

  • Avoid items like plastic straws, cutlery, and plates. Opt for reusable or compostable alternatives instead. This is a big one and an area we can easily start speaking up about - Just say no! (Thanks you) itโ€™s not as hard as it seems

Spread Awareness:

  • Talk to your friends and family about the importance of reducing plastic waste.

  • Share your journey on social media using the hashtag #PlasticFreeJuly

  • Educate others about the impact of plastic pollution and how they can make a difference.

Remember, every small step counts. By making these changes, you contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. Happy Plastic Free July! ๐ŸŒ
